At Workday, the ML team builds ML services that power our data products across HR, Finance, Planning, Recruiting, Learning, Search, and more. We are looking for a leader with the ability and experience to help succeed in a cross-functional and dynamic environment. You will be leading a team of software engineers and collaborate with product and engineering teams. As a leader you will be building relationships and partnering with product and operational teams. You will be expected to navigate between complex technical topics and strategic problems to deliver business impact. About the Role

  • Take part in all phases of the ML software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, data selection, methodological exploration, technical design, software construction, quality assurance, and integration with the Workday ecosystem.

  • Scope and craft new machine learning products and features in conjunction with product management.

  • Participate in the agile development process, including scheduling and estimation of machine learning software project tasks.

  • Lead and coach managers and senior software developers

  • Lead your team in designating the main effort from among competing team priorities

  • Lead and mentor team of Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Data Scientists

  • Develop roadmaps and metrics for the team and broader organization

  • Identify and remove roadblocks for your team’s success

  • Build strong relationships with partner teams both upstream and downstream of your dependencies to achieve business goals

About You

Basic Qualifications for Director

  • Advanced Degree in a field like computer science, statistics or operational research

  • 7+ years of hands-on technical experience in a machine learning engineering role or equivalent

  • 7+ years management experience building and leading software or data science teams

  • Track record of guiding teams through unstructured technical problems to deliver business impact

  • Skilled at running cross-functional relationships and communicating with leadership

  • Experience in industry tooling (AWS, Kafka, K8s, Python Notebooks, ML Orchestration, etc)

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Manager

  • Advanced Degree in a field like computer science, statistics or operational research

  • 7+ years of hands-on technical experience in a machine learning engineering role or equivalent

  • 5+ years management experience building and leading software or data science teams

  • Track record of guiding teams through unstructured technical problems to deliver business impact

  • Skilled at running cross-functional relationships and communicating with leadership

  • Experience in industry tooling (AWS, Kafka, K8s, Python Notebooks, ML Orchestration, etc)

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of ML Ops / DevOps / CloudOps

  • Relevant experience shipping products

  • Strong software development skills

  • Strong understanding of data and/or ML fundamentals

  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and ability to think across layers of the stack

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience developing in ML languages and toolkits such as Python notebooks

Workday Pay Transparency Statement

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things. Primary Location: USA.GA.Atlanta

Primary Location Base Pay Range: $190,400 USD - $285,600 USD

Additional CAN Location(s) Base Pay Range: $181,600 - $272,400 CAD
