Waymark is a team of healthcare providers, technologists, and builders whose mission is to bring the best healthcare to people with Medicaid benefits. Guided by the communities we serve, we bring support and technology-enabled care to help primary care providers keep Medicaid patients healthy. We are building the tools and designing an approach to enable care to reach the patients who can benefit most.

Our core values embody the essence of what makes Waymark a unique team today, and what we look for, nurture, and sustain as a team. We are bold builders, believing that the greatest challenges in care delivery can be solved when we harness the power of community and technology. We are humble learners, seeking feedback and perspectives different from our own, and welcome challenges to our conclusions. We experiment to improve, actively seeking data to inform decisions and to assess our own performance. We act with focused urgency, our commitment to our mission drives us to tirelessly pursue results.

About this role

In our 2024 data science roadmap, we're building multiple AI systems powered by Large Language Models to enhance Medicaid patient care. Success hinges on active involvement from all data scientists as well as other stakeholders in the product development lifecycle, including our data science leader, product and engineering leaders, and operations/clinical leaders. The daily work will involve problem definition and product requirements documentation, engaging stakeholders, solution design, coding, peer review, tool evaluation, metric evaluation, validation and ultimately delivering LLM data science products for clinical use. This senior role demands broad collaboration with hands-on work, from meticulous understanding of the problem with stakeholders, to solution documentation, to mentoring junior data scientists to writing code daily. Your expertise and experience are pivotal in shaping our data science future and fostering a team culture grounded in creativity, resourcefulness, knowledge sharing, timely delivery, accountability, and a collective 'all hands on deck' approach.

Our interview process includes a real-time coding and data science exam, as well as a take home exam.

Document Detailed Technical Requirements for LLM AI Systems:

Create comprehensive technical specifications for several Large Language Models (LLM) AI systems, detailing architecture, algorithms, and functionalities. You will work across multiple LLM AI systems, documenting their requirements, and actively engage with junior data scientists to build, guide, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions

Collaborate with Data Science Lead to Organize Delivery Timeline:

Work closely with the data science lead to break down project tasks and establish a clear delivery timeline. Ensure alignment with project goals and deadlines.

Mentor Junior Data Scientists to Enhance Their Skills:

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data scientists, assisting them in developing their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities.

Hands-on Coding:

Engage in daily hands-on coding [at least 5-6 hours daily], actively contributing to the development and implementation of LLM AI systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in data science or equivalent, with at least 4 years of data science work experience specifically in healthcare
  • Proficiency with Python, with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Hands-on experience with applications of machine learning, totaling 5+ years of expertise
  • Familiarity with AWS tools, particularly SageMaker, with a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Evidence of data science skills as indicated by GitHub repos or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in natural language processing along with experience using common open-source tools for building LLM products, such as JumpStart, LangChain, Llama Index, HuggingFace, and other LLM models
  • Strong background in writing technical requirements, with at least 3 years of experience
  • Demonstrated mentoring skills, with a minimum of 2 years of experience mentoring junior data scientists
  • Leadership experience in managing multiple data science projects, including technical design, development, and testing, with at least 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of 2-5 years of relevant experience in Large Language Models (LLM) applications
