Company Description
The National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International (NCBA CLUSA) is the trade association for cooperative businesses in the United States and an international development organization. For over 100 years, NCBA CLUSA has sought to advance and protect cooperative enterprises, highlighting the impact that cooperatives have in bettering the lives of individuals and families. In the last 70 years, NCBA CLUSA has worked in over 100 countries in the areas of food security, agricultural development, strengthening of communities and farmer organizations, natural resources management, and empowerment of smallholder farmers, women, and youth. We currently work in over 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
The Resilient Agriculture Activity (RAA) is a two-year cooperative agreement funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by NCBA CLUSA. RAA will help mitigate increases in poverty, food insecurity, and malnutrition in the Dominican Republic caused by higher food, fuel, and fertilizer prices. RAA will do this by promoting sustainable soil fertility management and sustainable cropping practices and improved agricultural practices, such as the more efficient use of fertilizers. RAA will also support local organic fertilizer production to reduce dependence on international markets. An agriculture industry that is more efficient and less dependent on imported fertilizers will support the country’s capacity to address its food security needs domestically.
