Looking to gain valuable real world work experience and help positively impact the health of billions of people? Apply for a GSK Internship today!

A GSK internship offers you the opportunity to kickstart your career – to take on a real role with genuine impact!  You’ll take on challenging, serious work on live projects or assignments.  You’ll also get to learn from us, develop your skills and gain valuable experience for wherever the future takes you.

What will you do?

The team The mission of the Discovery Data Sciences Centre of Excellence (DDS CoE) is to use high throughput technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), structural biology, and advanced bioinformatics to analyze DNA sequences to answer questions about the biology and impact of vaccination on different diseases. Among the main research interests are the role of membrane composition in the function and stability of antigen-antibody complexes. To this purpose, we combine molecular dynamic simulations with state-of-the-art AI structural prediction to unveil the role of Lipopolysaccharide and Lipid membrane composition on the antibody-antigen interaction.

The project

The aim of this proposal is to open an internship position to develop the following specific project.

“Shed light on the role of Lipopolysaccharide and Lipid membrane composition on the antibodyantigen interaction.”

Imagine having in your hand a such powerful microscope that will allow you to look inside the cell. Imagine zooming into the membrane and checking the surroundings: you would realize that membranes are flexible entities containing a large variety of lipid types and are crowded with proteins. This powerful microscope is called Molecular Dynamics (MD), an in-silico approach that allows us to overcome the current experimental limitation and investigate the effect of membrane composition on the function and stability of membrane proteins. In this project, you will go beyond the simplistic membrane representation and investigate the combined role of lipids and lipopolysaccharides on the antigen-antibody interactions. You will learn the basics of MD simulations and the cutting-edges techniques in protein and antibody structural prediction and how to critically apply in-silico techniques to reply to specific biological questions. Description The student will apply MD and AI approaches to unveil the role of membrane composition in the stability and function of the antige-antibody complex. The project will be done in the Discovery Data Science group
