Overview of Role
66degrees’ Managed Solutions Practice works with some of the largest cloud users in the world to help them transform their businesses with technology. Our Data Engineers combine Google Cloud Platform expertise with a passion for data and analytics to help our clients build, manage, optimize, and scale their cloud implementations.
On a daily basis, our Data Engineers work with varied and exciting customers on topics ranging from implementing and managing datalakes and warehouses to migrating and optimizing databases and data platforms. Our Data Engineers work with cutting-edge Google Cloud technologies like Google Dataflow, Bigtable, Spanner, and BigQuery, as well as leading 3rd party tools like Apache’s data suite, Windows SQL Server, and others. Our Data Engineers work with languages like Python, SQL, and Terraform to create automation, deploy infrastructure, ETL, create pipelines, and contribute to open-sourcing.

Responsibilities

We are based in Chicago, Illinois and Denver, Colorado, Mysore and Bangalore, India – and fully hybrid. Remote candidates should not hesitate applying. A 66degrees’ Data Engineer’s responsibilities and duties are as follows:
- Work with a team of engineers who provide 24/7 managed services, support, and project delivery to some of the largest Google Cloud customers globally
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot data pipelines, ETL processes, databases and data platforms, and related tools
- Advise on and implement data modeling and schema design for different data platforms
- Work in North American Daylight Hours ensuring near-zero downtime of data services
- Use and apply monitoring and alerting, self-healing automation, and continuous improvement principles
- Create highly automated, available and scalable systems by applying software and infrastructure principles
- Provide a proactive approach on our clients’ workloads, anticipating failures, automating tasks, ensuring availability, and providing a great customer experience
- Work closely with clients, their team, and Google engineers to investigate and resolve data issues across the stack
- Manage a Jira queue of inbound requests for numerous clients while effectively balancing and prioritizing projects
- Contribute to ad-hoc initiatives such as writing documentation, open-sourcing, and improving operation, making a huge impact at a rapid-growth Google Premier Partner
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience working with cloud-based databases such as RDS, Redshift, Cloud SQL, Spanner, BigTable, and at least one year of deep experience with Google Cloud solutions
- 3+ years of experience with databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Windows SQL Server
- 2+ years of developer experience using Python and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Terraform
- 3+ years of experience maintaining and improving data platforms - service alerting, monitoring, and automation
- Strong experience developing and deploying ETL / ELT processes and documentation including physical data model, source to target mappings, ETL / ELT packages (python, Airflow, Spark)
- Strong experience with Python and SQL. Other languages like Spark SQL a plus
- Strong experience with solutions for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources, relational and non-relational databases.
- Proven ability to work with users to define requirements and business issues
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience with an end to end reporting & analytics technology: data warehousing, data lakes and data ingestion.
- Experience with GCP infrastructure (GCS, BigQuery, Composer, Dataflow, Dataproc, Data Fusion, Linux), or other equivalent Public Cloud offerings
- Ability to work NA hours required
- Proficiency with Python required. Other programming language experience is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent required
