The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The Automated Inspection and Measurement group is responsible for fundamental technology development, application investigations, system integration and deployment, and long-term support across many 3M divisions in the areas of automated inspection, measurement, machine vision, automation, and process data systems. This group is a leader in digital technology within the corporation through its technology development and breadth of system deployment across 3M manufacturing operations.
As a Machine Vision Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Automated inspection, measurement, and machine vision system integration and application engineering with a focus on implementation of machine vision systems enabling automation within 3M manufacturing operations.
Technology development for custom inspection and measurement applications with particular emphasis on opto-mechanical systems, machine vision, and automation.
Data analysis and optimization using tools including Six Sigma to maximize value of delivered systems.
Identify, filter, and prioritize customer (3M Internal) requirements.
Working within a team setting to solve manufacturing challenges.
Provide ongoing Tier 2 support for installed infrastructure, may include on-call support.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Seven (7) years of machine vision experience that includes design and deployment of systems into manufacturing operations
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Possess expertise equivalent to that which would be obtained in a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related discipline
Five (5) years of professional experience implementing machine vision for automation solutions
Experience with Cognex machine vision platform
Image processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics experience
Skills include excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent networking skills, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills
Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Maplewood MN at least 3 days per week)
Travel: May include up to 20% US & international, primarily 3M manufacturing locations
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

The expected compensation range for this position is $133,435 - $163,088, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
